Brace yourself: Brentford’s Igor Thiago is locking in a longer-term future with the club, extending his stay until at least the summer of 2031 and adding a potential one-year extension for the team.
Igor Thiago, 24, arrived from Club Brugge in 2024 and has surged to become Brentford’s principal goal threat this season, already tallying 17 league goals. That tally places him only behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the Premier League, highlighting just how exceptional his form has been this year. He also recently broke the record for the most goals by a Brazilian in a single Premier League campaign, with 12 matches still on the clock, and he notched his first top-flight hat-trick against Everton in January.
Head coach Keith Andrews praised the commitment, saying Thiago’s bond with teammates, staff, and supporters has been clear from the start. He expressed that Thiago’s playing style is central to Brentford’s approach and that the striker’s development has been a joy to watch. The coach emphasized that the contract is well-deserved and that the club is happy to have sealed it.
Thiago himself expressed deep affection for Brentford, calling the club and its people a true labor of love. He noted that the backing from fans—especially when they sing his name—gives him extra motivation and meaning.
His journey hasn’t been without setbacks. After moving to London, he endured two major injuries that sidelined him for much of the 2024-25 season. He reflected on the supportive environment at Brentford’s training ground, crediting the staff and everyone around him for helping him push through the recovery process.
Despite those early injuries, Thiago has returned strongly, appearing in all but one of Brentford’s league fixtures this season. That form has helped lift the Bees into seventh place, keeping their European competition hopes alive for next year.
